Mesothelioma and The Shipbuilding and Seafaring Industries

A recent Danish study showed that shipbuilders and seafarers had elevated mesothelioma risk. This mirrors a similar scenario in the US where those who worked in the shipbuilding industry or those who served in the US Navy are at higher risk of contracting malignant mesothelioma.

For decades, the US Navy used asbestos throughout its fleet because of its insulation qualities and resistance to fire. This practice continued from the World War II era to more recent conflicts. America’s veterans who served during those years represent roughly one third of all of the country’s mesothelioma victims. Civilian workers were also exposed to this now restricted mineral, and many workers contracted mesothelioma decades later.

Compensation is available for you or a loved one diagnosed with mesothelioma as the result of asbestos exposure while serving on a US Navy ship or while working in the shipbuilding industry.
